But thanks for the warm welcome!!

Wow, just my luck. I got the whole air box and everything removed, even the wheel. And it doesn't fit. I'm pissed. It clearly does not fit. The intake tube is too short. And it hits the opening on the valve cover for the hose, which in turn doesn't allow the hood to close. And that's not even that bad of a problem, considering how the rubber coupler that connects the intake tube does not fit either the throttle body or the intake pipe. And the air sensor? It can't go on. It's pretty near impossible..... There are two random things welded on, one is for the hose connecting to the valve cover. I have no clue what the other is for. Anyone have help?

take it to auto zone and ask them for help, they can show you what you need to get it to fit, i cant really help without seeing the car and stuff in person

Yeah...I kinda panicked. Yeah, it was raining, so i parked my car halfway into my garage jacked up into the air with no front left wheel and battery. So, i was kinda mad. I was afraid to drive my car, with no airfilter or anything. But, i taped up the opening and shifted it into neutral and moved it.
Ok, so i did end up going to Auto Zone. I picked up an breather filter, good idea? And a black 3" coupler. The coupler took some time muscling onto the oval shapped throttle body...(why is it oval shapped?) I wish the coupler was longer...Does anyone know where i can easily and cheaply find a rubber/silicone coupler that's pretty long, and has a bend in it? Or a link to some black covered/painted 3" aluminum tubing? The intake is currently going off to the side of the engine, but it's sitting directly on top of the valve cover, which i think isn't really doing much good.
But man, this thing is a monster. It just sucks air like crazy, i car hear it. It definitely wants to be driven harder. Because compared to how it was before, it does not seem like it needs a lot to get to the same speed like when it was stock.
But now i've got a question about it. I've got the breather filter plugged ontop of the valve cover. But the sensor is not plugged in. I have two holes that aren't being used on the intake so i just ran the hose there temporarily. Is it bad not having that air sensor? And adverse effects?

If this is the intake you have, your going to see almost no gains
you need to get something that runs all the way to the throttle body, like this...

Haha, funny thing is, i am using that exact kit, but i decided to just use the filter and the stock air hose. I used the aluminum pipe to channel air from the fenderwell. but now i've got some questions. the car is need of springs/struts because of a recent *accident*, and i was thinking about getting some lowering springs. yes, i know this is going to sound bad, but bare with me, are dropzone springs any good? they're cheap. lol. i just don't want them to give me an awful ride.

and while i was on ebay, i starting looking at some other cheap stuff...
would this header suffice?

and i figured any strut bar is a strut bar. well, except for the 3-point ones.

There is one thing I have learned from driving a 96 Cav for 5 years. Folks in highschool who drive expensive cars, probably have rich parents who buy it for them and then they can't appreciate what they have. Lesson learned is when you buy something like a Cavalier and finally upgrade to something more....you appreciate it oh so much better.
You say you have a manual. You will probably have a better experience than me. I drive a 3spd auto, I went from 90hp to the wheels to what it is listed as stock to the crank, 120 approx. I have only basic performance mods, SRI/H/E.
And I really don't recommend a CAI for the Cavalier. For this car, it does not matter, the air is going to get heated up as soon as it hits the hot metal. You may notice a 1 to 2 hp difference with a CAI. Not worth your money. Stick to a good brand of SRI.
And by the way, I had my car dyno'd, I was hitting 117 to wheels, about 136 to the crank. Still slow for a economic sports car but def. progress from where it's coming from.

I disagree, I know I felt more power with my SRI. Unless he's running something powerful enough to go dual exhaust...CAI is not going to get that much more power. Maybe 1 or 2 more HP difference.
Edit: I tested this with a friend's AEM CAI (designed for a Cavalier) My friend runs a performance shop. We dyno'd the car on both. The test results showed the CAI had very little difference. Nonetheless more gains but hardly worth the money.

Oh no, i don't have a manual, i too have the 3 speed auto, and it's definitely a bummer. Lol. But i have definitely enjoyed this car, and i have to say, i am a huge fan of the cavalier. I agree with you about the expensive cars that are given to them by their parents, i know this for a fact. I cannot wait to BPU my cav, well, after i get everything running right.

Bad News: the only gains you will get are down hill lol
Good News: when your friend's RX8 motor blows up, you'll be giving him a ride home
